I’m sure you have encountered an obnoxious situation where the Hong Kong girl you asked to meet up with didn’t show up on time, be it a date or just regular hang-around. When she sent you a text of “I will be there in 5 minutes”, you might end up waiting for another half an hour before she finally popped up. By the time you had waited for 15 minutes, you would be wondering if you should just leave or not, yet you didn’t want to lose the opportunity of getting to know her.
Why on earth are Hong Kong girls always late?
1. Making perfect makeup
A Hong Kong girl who likes to look good would take at least half an hour or even an hour to apply makeup. First you need the toner water, foundation powder, then the eyeliner, eye shadows, mascara, then you move down a bit to put some lip balm and lip gross. The sophisticated girls would also master the act of putting shadow powder on the cheeks to make their cheekbone more prominent and sharp, thus creating a beauty-models-on-a-fashion-magazine look. And how could we forget the fake eye-lashes that amplify their eyes to look exactly like Barbie dolls’? A firm and transparent waterproof glue is an essential companion for that. If each makeup set takes more than 10 items, by the time Hong Kong girls hit the finish touch of red lipsticks, an hour is already gone and they might still haven’t even put a dress on.
2. “This dress looks nice, but I change my mind again”
When a Hong Kong girl’s wardrobe is packed with beautiful dresses and skinny jeans, it’s very hard for them to make a final decision on picking a piece to wear. They might find a navy deep-v dress matching with their smoky eyes, while 5 minutes later, the lovely off-shoulder little black dress seems to be an even better choice. After an hour, they would have tried on 10 dresses but still don’t know which one to wear out. Finally the girl gets a call realizing she is late and she might just quickly put on the first dress she try on an hour ago. After the wardrobe crisis is solved, rushing to a taxi with her super high heels is a crucial process.
3. Stuck at the restroom
Hong Kong girls love restrooms for a reason, no matter it’s the restroom at home or outside. The mirror at the restroom serves as a reflection (or reassurance) of their beauty and confidence that girls cannot live without and have to check frequently. This point is especially compelling when point #1 and #2 mentioned above are done at the restroom. Striving to look good on the face and outfit means that Hong Kong girls cannot afford a tiny bit of imperfection. Observations like the following always pop up in their mind:
- “there is a hair sticking out from my pony tail”;
- “the blush on my left cheek is slightly too light than my right cheek”;
- “the arch of my eyebrows is too much, it makes me look like a witch”.
These imperfections require a great work of follow-up actions, such as re-tying the pony tail, re applying the blush on the cheeks and re-do the eyebrow liner. The same applies to dissatisfaction of how a dress looks after trying on tons of dresses at the restroom. Assuming Hong Kong girls don’t bring their phone or watch into the restroom, they wouldn’t know time flies so quickly that they have already missed the meeting time.
From what my male friends told me, what they would do when a girl is late is that they would leave after 15 minutes. For me, if a female friend of mine is late for the first time, I forgive her and wait until she appear and tell her honestly that I don’t like her being late. However, there are also girls who are just always late and you still want to be friends with them for whatever reasons. If I know them well, and the best things I could do are:
- Show up (insert the time that person is usually late for) later than the agreed time;
- Tell the person you want to meet up with a time that is (insert the time that person is usually late for) before the actual time you want to set.
Bear in mind that all of these solutions we discuss would be useless if the person is just irresponsible. Being on time is always a good courtesy that one should strive to maintain. If you keep being late, your friends would find it annoying and want to hang out with you less. If you care about the relationship, you will try to improve and make it (more) on time.
If you don’t take people seriously, people would never take you seriously.
