I have always been a big fan of red lips and I always wear red lips. Red is passionate, fierce and provocative. Red lips denotes the sparks inside your head that you want to stand out from the crowd, to be noticed, to draw attention and to attract long stares. Red lips alone, regardless of how you dress, can make a bold statement, thus people would remember you as “oh that red-lip girl”. That happens to me too.
I normally wear a matte bloody-red lipstick to give out that kind of “devil” look, but the matte texture of the lipstick also mean your lips would become dry after a while.
Therefore in the coming Fall/Winter 2013, I’m craving to try some red lips in shiny and moist pigment. Here I’m doing a little bit of review for Shu Uemura’s two red lipsticks from their Rouge Unlimited Supreme Shine Line.
I tried on one of the colors, Mon Shu Red, and match it with my “cute” makeup: super heavy eyeliner to create wing eyes, a bit of shimmering eye shadows in brown and peach, and some baby-peach rouge on the cheeks.
Unlike traditional bold, solid and bright red color, Mon Shu Red is more transparent with shinning effect, easy to use, plus you don’t have to worry about wrong drawing because you can wipe away the pigment that goes outside your lips with your fingers.
The dewy shine and rich color also means you can keep your lips moisturized without losing the vibrant color even under the dry weather in Hong Kong’s winter, I was actually quite surprised by the moist texture of this lipstick as I’ve never seen it from other matte color ones.
But then again, no matter how much red lipstick you put on, it’s always the smile that makes the difference. Red lips could be only meaningless pigments without a happy mind, but it would do wonders when you smile with your heart. And people would remember your smile, your eyes, and your personality apart from only the red lips.
The lipsticks are provided by Shu Uemura.
